Dismantling strategy for damaged silo plants

Baseline Situation
  • Just before Christmas, two silos with around 2,800 tonnes of grain partially collapsed at an agricultural cooperative.

  • The situation was highly hazardous: unstable debris, risk of further collapse, worsened by rain, frost, and sprouting grain.

  • Standard solutions were not feasible; urgent, safe, and precise dismantling of silos and conveyor systems was required to prevent further damage and secure the facility.

Solution

Together with long standing partners, METZEN developed a precisely tailored dismantling strategy for the damaged silos.
Under extremely challenging conditions – from frost and moisture to highly dangerous tensions within the debris – the plant was dismantled step by step through meticulous planning and coordinated teamwork.
Five cranes, including a 650 tonne unit, secured and lifted the damaged plant components.

Result

The incident was resolved within a very short time and with maximum safety.
The partnership based collaboration, rapid response and high level of expertise demonstrated by METZEN led to successful execution under extreme conditions.
