Biography

Elmar Sahlender has been part of METZEN for more than 25 years. With his extensive experience in central Customer and project coordination, he is responsible for technical quotation and project management as well as the costing of complex Customer projects. He serves as a key interface between engineering, manufacturing and Customers.

He began his professional career with an apprenticeship as a metalworker and progressed through demanding roles as a design engineer in newspaper machinery and special purpose machinery. This was followed by positions of responsibility in the maintenance and repair of a paper mill. Since joining METZEN, he has pursued a consistent path of professional development, advancing through various technical roles to his current position.

His professional qualifications include certification as a mechanical engineering technician, qualification as a master craftsman in metal construction, and additional certification as a welding specialist. This broad technical foundation shapes his daily work and underpins his strong problem solving capability.

His areas of expertise include strategic Customer consulting and project support, from quotation through to order execution. His focus lies on complex projects in pump and turbine engineering as well as rail technology. In addition, he brings in depth expertise in welding and materials engineering.

Key projects that Elmar Sahlender has played a leading role in include numerous pump casings, as well as a wide range of cooler housings and rooftop cooling systems for globally operating companies. These projects required the highest standards in materials and manufacturing quality.

Among his most significant technical achievements are the production of separator housings made from super duplex steel, pump casings manufactured from super austenitic steels, and decanter centrifuge housings produced from austenitic materials.

As part of METZEN’s ongoing development, Elmar Sahlender makes an important contribution in the field of contract welding and stellite hardfacing for components used in pump and offshore applications. Through this work, he helps to open up high value specialist applications for METZEN.
